I bought this for my 4 year old twins for Christmas. We already have a Wii, but I wanted something to reinforce the letter and number recognition activities they do in 4 year old Kindergarten. However, the motion controller is really hard to use, it’s not nearly as easy as the controllers for the Wii, so my children play this game with the joystick only. Don’t expect this game to get your kids up and moving as the ads show, they’ll either use the joystick or if they do use the motion controller, the movement is more like shaking the controller than moving around.
Additionally, there’s really no educational content is in this product. Sure there’s a few letters and numbers scattered here and there, but the majority of the play is like a traditional video game (run, jump, run, jump, etc.) It’s as if they game creators threw in a few letters and numbers to make the game “educational”
My kids also have a leapster, and there’s a lot more learning in those games. Forget the Vtech and get a Leapster.

My daughter and I love this game system, the graphics are not as good as they could be, but the games are great and very interactive.

We bought this system for our 5 yr old on his birthday, right out of the box it has been great, the games that come with the system did not really do anything for my son or us, thankfully I had purchased a few extra games that star his favorite characters (Dora, Spiderman, etc) and he is hooked, he was enjoying it so much I bought a second controller and now my husband and I take turns playing with him. We us if as reward for him getting his chores done (helping around the house and picking up his toys), it is working well for that as well as being an educational toy. We prefer the toys that provide some educational lesson rather then none at all. For instance the Dora game includes instructions in both English and Spanish. It’s geared towards pre-school through 1st or 2nd graders and for this I think it fits the bill. Overall we are very happy, just wish the system had AC power.

my mom bought this for my 3 year old for his birthday. we played it about 4, maybe 5 times, and then it just quit working. (we had a v-smile that did the same thing…only it quit working after 2 years!!) my son was so disappointed!!! of course, my 1st instinct was to change the batteries. after 3 sets of batteries, i was convinced it was not an issue w/ the batteries. so, i went to the store and bought a power cord to plug it in to the wall…plugged it in, pushed the green button…still no light. The toy is obviously defective. so, i call amazon. they’ll refund me in the form of a gift card AFTER I SPEND MORE MONEY TO SHIP IT BACK!!! overall, I GOT ROBBED. after $60 of my mom’s money, plus the $ i spent on batteries and power cords and shipping, I’ve decided that V-TECH TOYS ARE A RIPOFF!!! They are cheaply made and the company REFUSES to stand by its product. let me be clear that it was never dropped or misused in any way. it was kept out of reach and only used under the supervision of myself or my husband. So, LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! You are better off to spend your money on Leapfrog products…you do NOT get what you pay for when you buy ANYTHING from v-tech!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our very first out-of-the box experience with Vtech was disappointing. I was shocked that a power supply was not included. It’s a reasonable expectation: besides, the idea of running this on an endless flow of batteries is extremely “un-green” and represents a hidden unexpected cost. In a sense, this is a way of raising the price of the product AFTER it’s already been purchased. Whether you have to purchase batteries or the power supply.
I also felt that the picture on the front of the box with two kids, each holding his own controller was a misrepresentation. This insenuates to the buyer that this is the experience contained in the box. What a surprise to find only one controller. “Oh, so you want four tires on your car… no problem we’ll sell you that fourth tire too!”
Marketing department take note: Don’t expect me to recommend this experience to friends. It’s simply dishonest to keep the price low by selling me “most” of the product at one price point knowing that I will need to spend more to actually complete it.
Having gotten off to a bad start with this product, I decided to read the reviews where several complaints consistently appeared: (Of course, my first few moments with the product has predisposed me to notice the negative comments first…) bad graphics (immediately obvious to me too), controller didn’t work (our immediate experinece also), stopped powering on soon after purchase and the game did not appear to be educationally sound. I saw several people recommend Leapster 2.
We will be returning the Vtech Vmotion tomorrow. At this point, Vtech’s brand value to me is in the negative figures. I will most likely not try another Vtech product.
